“History’s greatest badass”?!? Try Hideaki Akaiwa

The question of the week, tagged “badassery”, has a list of the usual suspects (Teddy Roosevelt, Joan of Arc, Julius Caesar) and personal champion Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton (real-life subject of the movie Mountains of the Moon, if you know it), but includes a hero minted in the March 11th, 2011 Tohoku disaster: Hideaki Akaiwa who, as quora.com succinctly puts it, “[swam] through his tsunami-ravaged town to save his wife and mother.” Read the details here.
